MANHATTAN BEACH RESIDENCE 1
Manhattan Beach, CA
Peterson-Wozniak undertook remodeling this 1921 original home and adding a third floor along with a new wing. While the design challenge may have been seamlessly integrating the structure’s original art deco style with the modern taste of its owners, the construction challenge lay in the building’s tight site parameters and structural modifications.
From underpinning the existing home—a process comprising over 150 yards of concrete meticulously placed throughout a six-month period prior to construction—to weaving structural steel within the existing building that supports an owner specified Rumford Masonry Fireplace on the rooftop deck, this historical, published Manhattan Beach classic was resurrected retaining its Art Deco roots running virtually property line to property line.
